HARDEEP SINGH

Young, eager and dedicated

Immigrated at the young age of 12, Hardeep quickly connected with Calgary Indian Canadian population. From an earlier age, Hardeep developed an interest in music, specifically Tabla. As Hardeep’s father Harjeet Singh was a President of Sarb Akal Music Society(SAMS) of Calgary, Hardeep was very well guided.

Hardeep actively volunteers for society to forward the passion of Indian classical music in Canada. He also holds an interest in playing “Dilruba” (a string instrument carved from one single piece of wood) and is also pursuing post-secondary at Mount Royal University major in Accounting.

SAMS

SAMS was established in 2009 to promote local & international artists and upholds the integrity of Indian Classical Music in the world. The society works towards maintaining and enriching music traditions by organizing musical concerts in Calgary and tutoring students of all ages, cultural and social backgrounds to learn & practice the art of the Classical Music at its affiliated school “Academy of Indian Classical Music” or AICM.

AMRIT SINGH BRAR

Experienced, passionate and enthusiastic

Born in the holy city of Amritsar -Punjab, Amrit grew up in Delhi - the capital of India. After immigrating to Calgary Amrit has devoted his time to bring a smile on the faces of 40 slum dwelling children of Delhi. From more than 19 years, Amrit’s mission is to bring life to 8 million children in India who are out of school due to poverty and other causes.

Helping children fight their daily battle of survival is a cause Amrit is championing from the last two decades. He firmly believes that if we fight this battle together, we can bring hope in their lives. Together, we all can bring change and make it last forever.

Amrit Sagar Educational and Charitable Society, in cooperation with Little Champ Public School situated in Indirapuram, Uttar Pradesh, India, was inaugurated in 2010.

Foundation pays a fee for 40 slum kids (still growing) from different backgrounds irrespective of religion and most of them are girls, and look after the basic medical needs. They also organize health camps, meditation camps and teach them sanitation throughout the year.

Foundation also works for children and parents with special needs in Mumbai.They have branches in Indirapuram (Ghaziabad-Uttar Pradesh)-Ludhiana (Punjab).

Amrit Sagar foundation works to bring all South Asian communities together.Foundation is dedicated to interrupt the current way of life and to put a new way of living together where elders are children get the safe and nourishing environment they are born for.

Amrit works as a volunteer with a passion to connect two parts of the world - India and Canada. Amrit got to connect with lots of amazing people including people from Bollywood -Television-Politics-Authors-Chefs and different fields connected.

1. Nominated and included in Asian Heritage Foundation's "Missing Chapters: Untold Stories of Asian Canadians in Calgary" at the Premiere of Nine Dragons by Jovanni Sy. On 21/09/2017
